The first day of your Sri Lanka tour will be spent in Negombo, where you can go to your hotel first and relax,
Take some time to explore the city and its grandeur by visiting sites like the Fort or St. Mary’s Church in the city centre. Afterwards, head off towards Sigiriya, the next destination on your itinerary. As you head towards Sigiriya, make a stop at the Pinnawala Elephant Sanctuary to see how the orphaned and injured elephants are being cared for. Arrive in Sigiriya and rest.
Early on day three, explore the Sigiriya Rock Fortress made of granite rock. The journey up Sigiriya Rock provides visitors with an opportunity to witness the enchanting frescoes painted on its rocky sides. Proceed to Polonnaruwa during the afternoon hours to explore the town along with its various narratives. The historical tales of Sri Lanka become accessible to you by visiting the numerous temples and ruins across the country. Spend your overnight stay at your hotel in Sigiriya.
Visit Anuradhapura City first thing in the morning. The age of Anuradhapura reaches two millennia since this city represents the oldest settlement in Sri Lanka. People interested in historical tales can access numerous stories of past kings and queens who ruled this land by taking tours of its ruins and temples. Your journey returns to Habarana so you may cruise through the Minneriya National Park in a jeep vehicle. Many elephants in the park meet at Minneriya Tank during the drought creating the famous wildlife event ‘The Gathering’.
Travel to Kandy during the morning hours after visiting several places along the route. Your first destination should be the Dambulla Cave Temple which exhibits Lord Buddha statues and murals. The next destination takes you to Spice Gardens so you can see specific Sri Lankan plants including cinnamon and cardamom. Upon arriving in Kandy you should proceed to your accommodation right away.
The first activity of day six begins with a visit to the Holy Temple of the Tooth Relic which is located in Kandy City. Review the temple walls along with the artwork before proceeding towards Peradeniya for a scenic stroll in Peradeniya Gardens. The city offers opportunities for shopping where you can purchase gems and jewellery together with batiks, wood carvings and silk items. The cultural dance performance begins as you return to the city during its scheduled time.
Proceed to Nuwara Eliya to find yourself amid the green tea bush hills. The production of Ceylon Tea occurs at various sites found within many local tea factories. Take advantage of the remainder of the day to explore this city and visit Gregory Lake for watersports or to explore the area.
Travel to Horton Plains on the morning of day eight. The animals of Horton Plains National Park include hares, deer and elk. The biodiversity in this wonderful park is made up of various wildlife and biomes that you can come across as you explore. In the afternoon visit Gregory Lake which provides water sports in Nuwara Eliya.
Travel from Nanu Oya to Ella by train. This train ride offers a glimpse of typical Sri Lankan sights like picturesque villages atop mountain slopes or stunning waterfalls cascading alongside lush mountains. Visit the Nine Arches Bridge and other attractions in this green city for the most picturesque views.
When the sun rises on the tenth day, depart for Yala. In the park, take a jeep safari to see a range of wildlife, particularly the leopards as they hunt and relax. Given that Yala is known to have a sizable leopard population, many visitors love to explore to come across these creatures.
The Galle Dutch Fort is Asia’s best-preserved sea fortress. When you leave early in the morning, make sure to stop by Galle for the first time. The Madu River Boat ride offers a close-up view of the wetland ecosystem. The dwindling turtle population that visits Sri Lanka’s beaches to lay their eggs can be preserved by going to the turtle hatchery. You can make wonderful memories by taking a stroll along the sandy Galle beach with your loved ones. Your last day in Galle should be spent engaging in thrilling water sports on the Bentota River.
Proceed to the airport following two amazing weeks spent exploring Sri Lanka’s breathtaking plains, valleys, mountains and beaches.
